Both greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and local from heavy duty (HD) Diesel engines must be greatly reduced to make transportation sustainable comply with increasingly stringent regulations. The fuel flexible engine concept for HD uses a dual direct injection system in which ignition of the main alcohol fuel, either methanol or ethanol, is induced by small pilot delivered via separate injector. objective this investigation was find ways combine advantages conventional low carbon fuels thereby bypass soot-NOx-trade-off. Experiments were conducted using modified single-cylinder three (methanol, reference fuel) determine how choice affected engine’s combustion behaviour, efficiency. Injection pressures on side varied up 1500 bar carried out at low, medium high speed-load points. significantly outperformed under all tested conditions (with without exhaust recirculation (EGR)). Indicated thermal efficiency increased 3.5%-points simultaneously soot lowered factor 40 more NOx 20%. Combustion stability same range as but replacing than 95 % fossil an fuel.
